James Dewitt Yancey (February 7, 1974 – February 10, 2006), better known as J Dilla, is one of the most notable hip hop names of all time. The Detroit producer, and one-third of Slum Village, is known for his work with A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Erykah Badu, The Roots, Common and The Pharcyde.
Dilla passed away in 2006 of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura. Every February 7, we celebrate Dilla Day; I play my Donuts playlist on Spotify, a collection of records blessed by Dilla.
